I did a favor for a friend and he offered to take me to any restaurant in Atlanta. I chose La Grotta. I had not been here since the early 1980s. It is truly a unique restaurant experience entering an old apartment high rise and taking an elevator to the basement. It feels like a hideaway for the power players of Atlanta. And lots of photos of celebs on the wall. We sat at an outside table as the indoor dining room was full. Enjoyed the professional waiter service and my glass of Super Tuscan. Ordered an excellent arugula and beet salad. Then I had the linguini marinara with shrimp and added scallops. It was on point. And we finished with one of the best tiramisu desserts in town. All in all a great dining experience.
Best Italian restaurant in Atlanta. My favorite is the Sacchetti di Formaggio e Tartufi Neri - black truffle and cheese stuffed pasta with marsala cream sauce. Every bite melts in your mouth with a burst of flavors. Perfect for special occasions. Perfect combination of amazing food and great service.
My only gripe at all after a few years of going once or so a month is that they often decide despite the fact the bar seats only 5-7 people to not sit anyone there when it's overly busy at the tables. It's led to me being forced to sit outside at times at a table. I've always been confused as to why as a handful of people up there isn't exactly going to derail the bartender from making drinks for the tables in my mind. Otherwise excellent food/service, never had any dish I didn't like.
We've never been disappointed with the wine and cocktails, the food, the desserts, the waiters, the interiors and patio, the valet service, etc so it gets a wholehearted five stars.
We had a reservation for 4 on Monday, 10/14/24 at 6:30 pm. Service was excellent! Valet parking. Dimly lit, almost speakeasy-vibes because it's off the beaten path, downstairs of an apartment building. I split a salad with one other person, we all shared 2 sides, and we each got an entree. Here's what I had: - Insalata Giulio Cesare ($13.95): Good!! - Brussels Sprouts: We were actually all disappointed in these. They were soft, when we wanted them to be crispy. - Burrata with Peaches: Very tasty! - Sacchetti di Formaggio e Tartufi Neri ($27.95): Amaaaaazing, just how I remembered it. So rich and creamy and delectable. Such a great restaurant for a special occasion!
Possibly the best Italian meal I've had in my life. I was here for a work trip and found this restaurant on Yelp! I didn't realize how fancy it was but they made me feel just as important as the men in sports jackets. I sat on their beautiful patio with string lights that made you feel like you were transported to Europe. Their bread was warm and complimentary. I started with an incredibly fresh Caesar salad. The espresso martini was creamy and you could tell they use real espresso. The sacchetti di formaggio was the star of the show. My only complaint is I wanted more! Delicious! Wish I lived here so I could come back!!
As always, La Grotta remains one of the best Italian restaurants around. The atmosphere is classy, so please dress accordingly, as people go for both the atmosphere as well as the food/vino. The super tuscan vino is great if you are looking for a new wine to try, you can order a glass or the bottle (I recommend bottle if there are 3+ in your party it ends up being cheaper than individual glasses). The sacchetti as well as the pappardelle are both wonderful dishes. The gnocchi is cooked perfectly if you are a gnocchi fan.
This please is top notch. Everything is good! Everything!!!!!! Amazing services great drinks. Espresso martini is bomb!!!!! So so so good. If you're in Atlanta go!
RESERVATIONS AND VERY MUCH WORTH THE PRICE ($$$). Extremely attentive service and a hidden gem beneath the condos was very surprising! The atmosphere felt as if you were trapped in time, far away from any hustle and bustle of the city. My husband and I went for an intimate birthday dinner and Rahul was our amazing server; request him if you get the chance! Food wise... BEST ITALIAN IN ATLANTA!! Complimentary bread to start..... The chicken Parmesan and lamb chops were both outstanding, along with the cheesecake and tiramisu to finish. Amazingly authentic Italian cuisine, and the Pinot noir bottle we ordered was poured throughout our meal perfectly. The COMPLIMENTARY valet made getting in and out a breeze. Highly recommend and will return!
